Our president elect, Christy Barros, was able to showcase her leadership skills by filling in for President Brad in his absence, at this week's meeting.  She announced that although we would like to be able to fund all of the teachers that were selected to receive mini-grants last week, the budget proved to be short by $128.  She challenged the Club members to dig deep, and open their wallets wide, when the the "Happy Bucks" bucket is passed around later in the meeting.  Of course, the members rose to the challenge, and we are happy to announce the needed funds were raised.

Our speaker for today was Dr. Steve Lack, retired Supervisory Special Agent, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General who investigated Medicare Fraud for over 25 years.  He is also a fellow Rotarian, and District Governor Elect for District 5160.  He shared with us that Medicare is a $600 billion per year industry and statistics show that 10% of that amount is associated with fraud. This is creating an annual cost to tax payers in the hundreds of millions. The two groups said to be blamed are organized crime and corporations (pharmaceutical companies).
