Judge Brian Van Camp, fellow Rotarian, former Judge and now involved in private practice mediation, provided us with a history lesson of the court system in Europe and America, and then enlightened us with the "whys" of an effective judicial system.

Some of the key points that Judge Van Camp included in his presentation:

  • Representative government and trial by jury are the heart ad lung of a free society;
  • LA County closed 16 court houses in the past few years due to lack of funds;
  • Ben Franklin said 238 years ago, "It's a republic, preserve it!" We continue to work on doing just that!
